A Benjamin Logan Elementary School student checks out an opossum during the school’s interactive zoo visit Monday, Nov. 27, sponsored by the BLES-PTC. Animals from different regions of the Columbus Zoo and Aquarium were introduced one at a time while their handler spoke about the animal’s habitat, its status in their native range, conservation issues, and more. The African penguin which makes a donkey-like noise, a red tail python, an eastern screech owl, a swift fox, an armadillo, and the opossum captivated the minds and imaginations of the students. The highlight of the interactive program was the connection between the students and the animals, school officials said. (Benjamin Logan PHOTO)
