Additional memorial contribution opportunities available
The tragic deaths Wednesday of Benjamin Logan High School students, brothers Robert “Robbie” and Wyatt Smith, in an automobile accident prompted an online fundraiser for the family of the boys that in less than 24 hours, has raised $52,987 to help with funeral expenses and other expenses.
The Facebook fundraiser started by Jeff Gamble has now ended after 1,322 donors far surpassed the goal of raising $35,000 for the Smith family.
“As a community, let’s show the Smith family what community support is all about after this tragic loss. This will help them with the cost of funeral expenses for both sons,” Gamble said.
“Thank you so much if you have a donated or have prayed for the family.”
Donors also voiced many words of support for the family on the Facebook page, offering their prayers, condolences and ongoing thoughts for the family. The boys are the sons of Ryan (Christine Cheney) Smith and Sandra (Josh) Engle, all of Bellefontaine.
Robbie, 16, was a junior at Benjamin Logan High School where he played baseball, football, and basketball. He enjoyed being outdoors and racing
Wyatt, 14, was a freshman at BLHS, where he played football, baseball, and ran track. He enjoyed being outdoors and playing video games.
Benjamin Logan Schools operated on a two-hour delay today, Thursday, Nov. 21, as a result of the fatal accident that occurred at 3:11 p.m. Wednesday on Township Road 230. Grief counselors have been made available for students and faculty.
In addition, the boys’ father, Ryan Smith, is part of the Mobile Instrument staff, and company officials reported that a memorial account has been set up on behalf of the Smith Family.
Contributions can be made to Citizens Federal Savings and Loan, 110 N. Main St., Bellefontaine, with a reference to the “Smith Family Memorial Fund.” The company reports 100 percent of donations will be given to Mr. Smith.
