OHP students advance to Ohio SkillsUSA Championships

Nine Ohio Hi-Point Career Center students advanced to the Ohio SkillsUSA competition after placing in the top three in the regional competition on Saturday, Feb. 18.

Ohio Hi-Point’s students competed against other students from nearly 20 other career centers in a variety of event categories from construction, diesel, cosmetology and digital media to public speaking, leadership, and parliamentary procedure.

The following students will compete in Columbus at the state competition in March:

• Sullivan Ashcraft (Construction Trades, Bellefontaine High School) earned Gold in Carpentry.

• Gracie Hammaker (Graphic and Media Arts Academy, Bellefontaine High School) earned Gold in Photography.

• Avery Meeks (Spa Tech, Waynesfield-Goshen) earned Gold in Job Skill Demo Open.

• Terran Maier (Cosmetology, Bellefontaine) earned Silver in Customer Service.

• Graphic and Media Arts Academy students Ella Reier (Bellefontaine), Isabella Hoffman (Kenton), Kamryn Ridge (Benjamin Logan) earned Silver in Promotional Bulletin Board.

• Allison Harlan (Graphic and Media Arts Academy, Triad) earned Bronze in Job Interview.

• Avery Newland (Spa Tech, Ridgemont) earned Bronze in Nail Care.

At the Ohio SkillsUSA Championships, students will compete with more than 5,000 competitors in 100 contests in 16 career pathways for the title of best in Ohio in their respective career fields.

Business and industry partners, instructors, and vendors work with the students to showcase Career and Technical Education in Ohio.
