What once served cosmetology students at Ohio Hi-Point Career Center (OHP) is now the Clark State College (CSC) Bellefontaine administration building. An open house Wednesday evening, Aug. 27, showcased the remodeled space for the community.

“This building is more than just new walls,” Natalie Johnson, CSC associate dean, regional locations, said in her opening remarks. “It’s a testament to the relationship between Clark State and Ohio Hi-Point.”

During the presentation, people also heard from Kyan J. Thomas, a private first class in the United States Army and a construction student at OHP. Near the end of the last school year, Thomas was part of the team that demolished and remodeled what is now the Clark State building.

According to Thomas, the experience gave him and his fellow students a “wonderful opportunity” to learn more about safety, proper demolition and the assembly and use of scaffolding. He called it a “well of experience and knowledge” he’s now able to pull from at his current job.

After graduation, Thomas plans to get his construction management degree as well as complete ROTC and become a commissioned officer in the US Army.

“Thank you for supporting programs that allow students like me to build real skills, real confidence and a real future,” Thomas said in closing. “It’s opportunities like this that make a difference, and I’m honored to be a part of it.”

Attendees Wednesday night also heard from Dr. Jo Alice Blondin, CSC president, and Dr. Rick Smith, OHP superintendent.

Besides administrative offices, the Clark State building includes a testing center and a small classroom.
