Officers of the Bellefontaine Police Department are searching for a teenage girl who was reported missing Sunday, Sept. 29, after leaving her home without permission.

Amalina Powell, 16, was last seen leaving her residence at 219 S. Park St. around 1 p.m. Sunday. The incident was first reported by her father who was at work at the time and observed his daughter leave through a doorbell camera.

The girl’s father told officers that a male juvenile entered his home and that his daughter was the only one home and was not supposed to have visitors. The unknown male and Amalina were seen on the doorbell camera and the home alarm was triggered.

The male then left the residence, and moments later Amalina also left and walked eastbound with the male before officers arrived on the scene.

Officers responded to the call at 1:06 p.m. and spoke with the girl’s father through his doorbell camera. The father informed officers that he did not recognize the male and that Amalina had left with him just before their arrival. A search of the area failed to locate either the teenager or the unidentified boy.

Later that afternoon, officers returned to the residence at 4:52 p.m. following another call from the girl’s father who reported his daughter had not returned. He shared additional information, stating that the male, along with several friends, returned to the house after Amalina had left. The boy briefly covered the doorbell camera and made a comment about how to block it.

The father also said he wanted to press criminal charges against his daughter, noting she already had pending charges and that he hoped she would be placed on juvenile probation.

Police were provided with video footage of the events, which have been forwarded to detectives for further investigation.

Amalina has been entered as a missing person. The investigation remains ongoing as officers continue their search for Amalina. Anyone with information on her whereabouts is encouraged to contact the Bellefontaine Police Department at 937-599-1010.
