A suspected drug-dealing Mexican national was jailed Wednesday, March 8, as a result of a traffic stop initiated around 5:30 p.m. that resulted in the seizure of a large amount of drugs and thousands of dollars in cash.
Isai C. Mariscal, 30, of Columbus, was charged with trafficking in, and possession of both heroin and cocaine. Officers of the Bellefontaine Police Department initiated a stop of the 2009 Honda Accord the suspect was driving for a registration violation in the 300 block of west Columbus Avenue.
Mariscal provided officers with a Mexican identification card and reportedly spoke very little English. During the stop officers recovered large amounts of both heroin and cocaine packaged for sale, and suspected fentanyl. Officers also recovered a digital scale, packaging materials, and $4,413 in cash.
He was lodged in the Logan County Jail. Investigation continues and additional charges are pending.
