New fiscal officer appointed in Russells Point

1007

The Russells Point Village Council convened recently for a regular meeting, appointing a new fiscal officer and addressing acts of vandalism as well as potential security measures.

Council approved an ordinance appointing a new fiscal officer for the village. After a thorough selection process, Mayor Robin Reames, council member Joan Maxwell, and Board of Public Affairs representative Libby Stidam conducted interviews with three qualified applicants.

Following their evaluation, the trio recommended Taylor Thompson for the position. The council approved their recommendation and Ms. Thompson will assume the role with an hourly wage of $26.50.

The newly appointed fiscal officer brings a wealth of experience in fiscal management and is expected to contribute significantly to the village’s financial operations.

In other matters, Chief Joe Freyhof reported on an unfortunate incident of vandalism that occurred at the Historical Society Bridge. The bridge, a cherished historical landmark, was defaced with profanity.

Fortunately, the vandalism was carried out using chalk, and with the help of the fire department, the offensive markings were swiftly removed. However, the police chief expressed his concern regarding the recurrence of such incidents. He highlighted that this was not the first time the Historical Society Bridge had been targeted, and suggested the installation of security cameras to deter future vandalism and aid in identifying the culprits.

Chief Freyhof expressed his intention to attend the upcoming meeting of the Historical Society to discuss potential security measures and garner support for the installation of surveillance cameras.

The Ohio Association of Chiefs of Police has recognized the Russells Point Police Department as the Agency of the Month for August 2023.

Finally, upcoming dates of note include the annual homecoming parade, set for Thursday, Oct. 6; and trick-or-treat, Thursday, Oct. 26, from 6 to 7:30 p.m.
