Jason McCullough, 22, of West Mansfield, was charged with impaired driving and cited for failure to turn on his headlights following a traffic stop executed by officers of the Bellefontaine Police Department shortly after 2:30 a.m., Saturday, Oct. 5, in the area of 200 E. Sandusky Ave.
Police on patrol in the area of east Patterson Avenue at south Main Street observed a black Acura vehicle operated by the defendant exit the parking lot of the Speedway gas station without its headlights on. Officers continued to observe the vehicle and after several moments the lights on the vehicle still had not been turned on.
Officers continued to follow the vehicle northbound along south Madriver Street and initiated a traffic stop at that time. Signs of impairments were observed upon making contact with the defendant, officers report, including an odor of alcoholic beverage.
McCullough’s speech was slurred and his eyes were glassy and bloodshot. Field sobriety tests were attempted but were not successful. We was transported back to the police department and agreed to a blood-alcohol test, which registered .141.
He was issued a citation for OVI and for the traffic offense and was related to a sober driver.
