A motorist with a history of impaired driving was arrested Saturday, April 5, for felony drunk driving following a traffic stop executed by officers of the Bellefontaine Police Department in the 300 block of South Main Street.
TJulie Hoberty, 60, of Bellefontaine, was reportedly observed operating a silver Cadillac sedan observed about 3:05 p.m. that displayed two different Ohio license plates — one on the front that was expired and registered to a deceased female, and another on the rear registered to a male.
After initiating a traffic stop, Hoberty claimed the vehicle belonged to her roommate and admitted she did not have her driver’s license on her but provided her social security number. She also said she was unsure of her license status. A check revealed she was driving under an active OVI suspension through July 2025.
While speaking with Hoberty, officers noticed the odor of an alcoholic beverage on her breath. Two male passengers in the vehicle did not have valid licenses and were released at the scene. One of the men told officers that Hoberty had been drinking Four Loko, a high-alcohol beverage. A search of the vehicle revealed a 3/4-empty open container of Four Loko under the driver’s seat. No other open containers or contraband were found. The vehicle was towed from the scene.
Hoberty was transported to the Logan County Jail, where she submitted to a breath test and registered a blood-alcohol content of .230. She later admitted to consuming a glass of wine earlier that morning between 9:00 and 11:00 a.m.
A review of Hoberty’s record revealed multiple OVI convictions, with previous offenses in 2022, 2020, 2016, 2013, 2009 and 1994. She was lodged on one count of fourth-degree felony OVI.
