Alysha Smith, 21, of Bellefontaine, was arrested shortly before 1 p.m., Thursday, Aug. 1, after leading deputies from the Logan County Sheriff’s Office on a high-speed pursuit along westbound U.S. Route 33.
Deputies on patrol in the area of U.S. 33 and State Route 347 observed a 2007 Yamaha motorcycle speeding westbound in that location. Deputies registered the speed at 91 mph in a 70 mph zone.
Lights and sirens were activated as law enforcement attempted to conduct a traffic stop at that time.
The motorcyclist sped up. Smith continued westbound and accelerated to speeds well over 100 mph. The motorcyclist reached speeds of up to 121 mph and was passing motorists on the right shoulder while traveling westbound near U.S. 33 and State Route 292.
Smith exited U.S. 33 at County Road 10 and passed two more vehicles along the shoulder in the process, deputies report.
Law enforcement continued to give pursuit and followed the defendant to Township Road 180 at C.R. 10. Smith pulled onto T.R. 180 and pulled over at that time.
Smith claimed to have not noticed law enforcement behind her until after she was near T.R. 180. She told deputies she worked at a hospital and asked to only be given a citation for speed.
She was placed in handcuffs and cited for speeding, along with improper passing, failure to display a license plate, reckless operation and failure to comply with law enforcement.
She was lodged in the Logan County Jail.
