An Urbana man who succumbed to injuries sustained in a motorcycle crash that occurred about 7:40 p.m. Saturday, June 8 in the 1600 block of County Road 130 has been identified.

James L. Shields, 56, was transported to Mary Rutan Hospital, where he died about 10 p.m. Saturday, deputies of the Logan County Sheriff’s Office report.

First responders administered cardiopulmonary resuscitation to Shields at the scene before transporting him to MRH. Efforts there to stabilize the victim so he could be flown to a Columbus hospital were unsuccessful, deputies said.

Shields was operating a 2004 Honda motorcycle southbound on C.R. 130 when he reportedly failed to negotiate a curve and traveled off the right side of the road where the bike overturned.

Shields was not wearing a helmet, according to the crash report.

C.R. 130 between West Williams Avenue and County Road 13 was closed until about 8:30 p.m.

The crash remains under investigation.
