A former Bellefontaine middle school employee is no longer with the district following an investigation into inappropriate interactions with students via social media apps.
Delmar Fogan, a former aide and substitute teacher at the middle school, resigned his position Jan. 17 amid an investigation into alleged misconduct involving students.
“The district was in the process of investigating claims of inappropriate communication with students through social media when Mr. Fogan resigned,” Superintendent Brad Hall said in an email.
A criminal investigation was initiated Jan. 16 into Fogan’s conduct, but no charges were filed. The Bellefontaine Police Department confirmed the inappropriate nature of the messages, but ultimately determined they did not rise to a criminal level.
Parents of more than one student came forward with reports that Fogan had engaged in inappropriate conversations via social media with students.
“The district was in communication with the police department during that time and has since learned that Mr. Fogan is not being charged with a crime,” Hall said. ” While the police department determined that the communication was not criminally inappropriate, Mr. Fogan did violate Board policy by communicating with students through social media.”
