The Leapfrog Group has again awarded Mary Rutan Health an “A” Hospital Safety Grade for achieving the highest national standard in patient safety.
Mary Rutan Hospital is the only hospital in the Logan, Union, Shelby, Champaig and Allen County region to receive an “A” rating.
The Leapfrog Group assigns a grade between “A” and “F” to more than 2,600 general hospitals across the country. The grade uses over 30 measures of safety data, including rates of preventable errors, injuries, and infections. It also accounts for whether hospitals have systems in place to protect patients from harm.
Leapfrog Hospital Safety Grades are considered the “gold standard of patient safety.”
“Earning an ‘A’ Grade means Mary Rutan Health has made a true commitment to put patients first,” said Leah Binder, The Leapfrog Group president and CEO. “We congratulate the leadership, board, clinicians, staff and volunteers that all had a role to play in this achievement.”
“Patient safety is one of the foundational elements for those deciding where to receive care,” said Chad Ross, Mary Rutan Health president and CEO. “This national designation by The Leapfrog Group assures our community that the health care provided by Mary Rutan Health meets the highest standards.
“This recognition is based on actual data for all patient interactions, objectively reviewed by an independent third party and compared against our peers. As we expand access to quality care to our growing community, this recognition signifies our commitment to providing the best quality, safety, and patient experience.”
“Improving patient care by focusing on key quality and safety indicators is integral to achieving Mary Rutan Health’s overall quality and safety objectives,” said Mary Sebring,
Mary Rutan Health director of quality. “Quality data is a critical tool that allows us to promote performance improvement and focus on protecting patients from preventable harm and delivering safe, high-quality care to our communities.”
The Leapfrog Hospital Safety Grade is the only hospital ratings program based exclusively on hospital prevention of medical errors and harm to patients. The grading system is peer-reviewed and fully transparent to the public.
