Date:

Mary Ellen Schmauch (Ackley) passed away at home on September 27, 2023, at the age of 81.

Born on December 24, 1941, in West Mansfield, Ohio, to the late Andrew and Mary (Dobie) Ackley. Preceded in death by her husband, Harold, just 41 days prior; her parents; and brother, Richard.

Mary is survived by son, Keith Day, stepchildren, Miles, Michael, Marc and Marci; grandchildren, Lillianna, Renesmee, Octavia, Brittany, Jessica, Zachary and Kendra; great grandchildren, Aaron, Brayden, Kynlee and Olivia; nieces, nephews, friends, other family and her beloved dog Bailey.

Mary retired as a private banker from Huntington National Bank, after almost 40 years of service. She enjoyed spending time with her family, her schnauzers, camping, fishing for muskies, bowling, crocheting, and attending high school class reunions at West Mansfield High School.

Mary was an avid fan of The Ohio State University Football and Basketball teams, as well as the Boston Celtics; journaling details of every game and season for many years (including the 2023 OSU football season). Mary will be missed by many and remembered for her thoughtfulness; every year making certain that the grandkids’ birthday cards contained individual dollar bills for the age they were turning (the banker in her), and many other thoughtful gestures.

A graveside service and celebration of life will be held at a later date. Funeral arrangements by Skunza Funeral Service. Columbus, OH. (614) 895-3200.
