Marlene Sue Van Buskirk Stokes passed away on March 18, 2024, at St. Rita’s Hospital in Lima.
She was born March 16, 1938, a daughter of the late Carl A. Van Buskirk and Carlida E. Parker Van Buskirk of Big Springs.
Marlene married Dale Oliver Stokes on June 28, 1958, and he preceded her in death in 2001. A son, Darren Allen Stokes, passed away in 1986.
She is survived by a brother, Steve (Linda) and a host of nieces and nephews.
Marlene attended Rushsylvania School and graduated in 1956.
She worked in various office positions in the Columbus and Bellefontaine area. She later volunteered at Mary Rutan Hospital and then loved her position at the YMCA in child care.
In earlier years, the family attended the Middleburg United Methodist Church and Bellefontaine First United Methodist Church. In her senior years, she attended the First Church of God on Brown Avenue.
There is a memorial service planned for 11 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 14, at the gazebo at Highland Memorial Cemetery on U.S. Route 68 south, West Liberty. Casual dress is requested.
