A city man was jailed early Tuesday after deputies responded to a reported burglary in progress at a County Road 11, Bellefontaine, residence.
Deputies of the Logan County Sheriff’s Office were dispatched about 10:43 p.m. Monday, March 16, after a woman reported her ex-boyfriend had forced entry into the home. Responding deputies observed fresh tire tracks and footprints outside, along with damaged bedroom and kitchen windows where window air-conditioning units had been pushed inward.
The victim told deputies she had been sleeping when the suspect, identified as Tariq Sopher, 24, struck the bedroom air-conditioning unit from outside while demanding to speak with her. She said he then removed a second unit from a kitchen window and entered the garage before leaving when she contacted authorities.
Bellefontaine police later advised the suspect’s vehicle was detected about 11:15 p.m. by the city’s Flock camera system near Brennen and Ludlow streets. Marysville police located Sopher about 1:11 a.m. at a Pellman Loop residence and placed him under arrest.
He was transferred to Logan County deputies at the Union County line and lodged in the Logan County Jail without incident.
Sopher is charged with burglary and violating a protection order.
