Evan G. Harris, 29, of New Lebanon, was charged with a felony count of domestic violence and strangulation related to an incident Thursday, June 22, in Lakeview.

Deputies of the Logan County Sheriff’s Office were dispatched about 12:30 a.m. to an address on north Main Street in reference to a domestic dispute.

Harris’ girlfriend reportedly went to a neighbor’s residence, and deputies spoke with her there. She said Harris had come home drunk that evening and asked to look through her phone.

His girlfriend said Harris then began to break her phone and starting beating on her and attempting to strangle her. She said at one point, he also threw a knife at her and made threats against her.

When she had an opportunity, the defendant’s girlfriend said she ran from the residence to her neighbor’s home.

Deputies noticed bruising to her neck and blood in her left eye, along with a knot on her forehead. She later was checked on scene by EMS personnel, but she declined transport to the hospital.

Deputies went to Harris’ address and he reportedly refused to open the door to them. His girlfriend provided deputies with a key to the residence, but the door was chained closed, so she also gave permission for them to force entry.

However, Harris escaped the home through an open window and deputies had assistance from Washington Township Police Department officers in searching for him in the area.

While he was not immediately located, deputies said Harris called the sheriff’s office to make a statement and agreed to come in to the sheriff’s office later in the day to speak in person.

He reportedly showed deputies scratches to his clavicle area and to his right shoulder and said he had to defend himself from his girlfriend hitting him while they were in a fight.

Harris was placed under arrest and was lodged in the jail. He is facing the felony charge because of a prior conviction.

Woman lodged for public intoxication
Angel A. Lazo, 19, of 10607 State St., Lakeview, was charged with public intoxication and underage consumption related to an incident early Sunday morning, June 25, in Zanesfield.

Deputies on patrol in the village about 1 a.m. observed her walking along the roadway and noticed that she appeared to be crying.

While speaking with the woman, identified as Lazo, deputies said she was very unsteady on her feet and had an odor of alcoholic beverage on her person. She also had some scratches and blood on her, deputies noted.

Deputies said a vehicle in the area slowed while they were talking to Lazo and deputies spoke to the driver of the vehicle, who identified himself as Lazo’s boyfriend.

Her boyfriend told deputies that they had been at her sister’s house in Urbana and that Lazo had been drinking there. While on their way home, he said she gave to try to jump out of the vehicle, both while it was stopped and when it was moving. He also noted she was able to jump out of the vehicle once.

He also said she sustained her injuries from when she jumped out of the car and when he tried to stop her from jumping out of the vehicle.

Deputies said Lazo was placed under arrest for her own safety and was transported to the Logan County Jail.
