BellefontainePolice Patch-200Robert Stone, 27, of Bellefontaine, was arrested and charged with a number of felony offenses following a reported domestic dispute and altercation with officers of the Bellefontaine Police Department that occurred around 10:30 p.m., Wednesday, April 5.

Police were dispatched to the Penny Lane Apartments on a report of a couple arguing and a female yelling she was being choked.

Upon their arrival, they observed a male, later identified as the suspect, speed away in a black SUV.

A short time later, officers caught up with the suspect and initiated a traffic stop. Signs of alcohol impairment were observed, and Stone denied having put his hands on the woman.

Police interviewed the victim, who said Stone grabbed her from behind and constricted her breathing. He also reportedly threatened to break her phone and attempted to keep her from leaving the apartment.

He also declined officers’ invitation to attempt field sobriety tests to determine his capacity to drive.

As officers went to arrest Stone, he became increasingly agitated and hostile, struggling with police. He was eventually handcuffed and taken to the Logan County Jail, where he continued to be confrontational and hostile and had to be placed in a restraint chair.

Stone was charged with felonious assault, abduction, strangulation, disrupting public services and operating a motor vehicle under the influence of alcohol and/or drugs.
