Jared Greenbaum, 37, of St. Marys, was charged Tuesday, Aug. 20, with persistent disorderly conduct following an investigation by officers of the Bellefontaine Police Department into his suspicious behavior.

Officers were dispatched around 2:30 p.m. to the area of the the Bellefontaine Post Office, 132 S. Detroit St., here Greenbaum was reportedly harassing customers and damaging property.

Witnesses also described Greenbaum kicking a sign belonging to Native Coffee and placing an unidentified item in the bushes outside the coffee shop. He also reportedly entered the establishment, which concerned staff and customers.

When officers arrived, they observed Greenbaum exiting Native Coffee. During questioning, Greenbaum provided confusing, nonsensical answers.

Despite being told he was not free to leave, Greenbaum attempted to walk away. Employees at Native Coffee described Greenbaum’s behavior inside, including shouting about gold and silver and speaking of dreams involving Santa Claus.

Greenbaum was subsequently trespassed from Native Coffee and warned about potential disorderly conduct charges.

Later in the evening, around 7:30 p.m., officers were dispatched to investigate reports of a man looking into mailboxes on West Columbus Avenue near West Sandusky Avenue.

The suspect, identified as Greenbaum, was seen walking westbound. When approached by law enforcement, Greenbaum claimed he was searching for a pen but refused to follow instructions to stop.

A patrol unit intercepted Greenbaum after he continued to walk away from officers. During the encounter, he exhibited signs of agitation, including constricted pupils and resistance. A brief struggle ensued before Greenbaum was taken into custody. A search of his belongings yielded no illegal items. He was lodged in the Logan County Jail.
