Man arrested for strangulation, domestic violence

Joshawa Barry, 34, of Bellefontaine, was arrested Sunday, Oct. 6, on multiple charges following a domestic incident involving a child.

Officers of the Bellefontaine Police Department were contacted around 7:15 p.m. by Berger Hospital near Circleville on a report of domestic violence. Officers were told by the victim’s grandmother that Barry had reportedly caused visible injuries to the boy’s neck after choking and squeezing him.

Officers were also told that Barry is verbally abusive to the victim and called him several insulting names and make additional threats in addition to the reported physical violence. Pictures were provided of red marks around the victim’s back and neck.

Officers learned Barry has a prior conviction for domestic violence from Allen County in 2021.

Contact was made with Barry at his residence. He claimed to have never strangled the victim. He also accused the victim of sneaking his marijuana. He was charged with domestic violence, strangulation and endangering children and was lodged in the Logan County Jail.
