John R. Fox, 44, of 3806 Logan Road, Bellefontaine, was charged with domestic violence and strangulation related to an incident Thursday, Jan. 4.

Deputies of the Logan County Sheriff’s Office were dispatched about 9:40 p.m. to his address on an active 911 call. Dispatchers said no one answered questions on the phone line, but children could be heard in the background.

When deputies arrived, they spoke with Fox and his live-in girlfriend.

Fox stated he had been laying on the couch that night when his girlfriend began to argue with him.

His girlfriend told deputies that the defendant came home intoxicated and began to consume more alcoholic beverages. She reportedly asked him to stop drinking several times and moved her two toddlers away from him. However, she said he “snatched her up” and drug her down the hall.

She reported that Fox began to punch her in the head and then he allegedly grabbed her by the throat and squeezed her neck. She said she couldn’t breathe or talk and that she “blacked out.”

The girlfriend reportedly was able to kick the defendant off of her and closed herself and her children in the children’s room.

Fox then reportedly broke down the bedroom door. Deputies said they located the door that had been removed from the bedroom area. They also noticed a clump of the victim’s hair in the bathroom sink that she said she’d combed out after Fox pulled her by her hair.

Deputies said the victim declined EMS treatment at the scene. Fox was placed under arrest and transported to the Logan County Jail.
