The Trout Unlimited Mad River Chapter invites the community to join a large-scale cleanup of the Mad River on Saturday, Sept. 21, from 9 a.m. to noon.
Volunteers should meet at the U.S. Route 36 bridge west of Urbana.
This effort will cover the stretch from West Liberty Park (Lions Ball Park) to Mad River Gorge Park in Clark County, focusing on improving water quality, preserving the river’s natural beauty, and protecting local wildlife habitats.
Volunteers are needed to help remove litter and debris from the areas around the bridges and access areas. Volunteers will not need to get in the water.
Representatives from Trout Unlimited said litter along the Mad River is an ongoing issue that negatively impacts both the environment and the local community.
“With increased instances of open dumping, particularly around the U.S. 36 bridge area, maintaining a clean and safe river is more important than ever.
“By participating in this cleanup, volunteers can make a positive difference and help ensure continued access for future outdoor recreation and conservation efforts.”
All are welcome to participate in this event.
“It’s a great opportunity to enjoy the outdoors, make new connections, and give back to the environment,” Trout Unlimited members said.
“We recommend bringing gloves, wearing closed-toed shoes, long pants and long sleeve shirts, and preparing for a fun and rewarding morning.
“By coming together for this event, we can protect the Mad River and make a lasting impact on the community.”
