Lowell J. Brose, 87, of Mt. Victory Lowell passed away on Monday, January 29, 2024, at his residence in Mt. Victory.
He was born on July 19, 1936, in Delano, Minnesota, to the late Leo F. and Flora Lillian (Westerdahl) Brose. On September 28, 1968, he married Jerry Lou Tallman, and she survives in Mt. Victory.
Also surviving are two children, Terence (Jacqueline) Brose of Kenton, Carmen (Jared) Collins of Mt. Victory, a brother, Harlen (Audrey) Brose of Connecticut, grandchildren, Christian O’Reilly, Donovan Brose, Dovah Collins, Robert Brose, and many nieces, nephews, and friends.
He was preceded in death by a sister, Marlene Domalick.
Lowell graduated with his master’s in library science from the University of Minnesota and went on to get his Doctor of Divinity from Concordia in Minnesota.
He was an antique dealer for 54 years, owning and operating “House of Yesteryear” with his wife, Jerry. He never wanted anything to go to waste. He always tried to find a new use for something or would recycle whatever he could.
Lowell loved his town and was very active in the Mt.Victory/Ridgemont community. He was a member of the Ridgemont Public Library Board, worked as a teacher’s aide in the Ridgemont School system, was a Hardin County Tourist Board Member, Hardin County Council on Aging Board Member, Mt. Victory Town Council for 24 years, Appleseed Ridge Girl Scout Leader and on the Hardin County Sesquicentennial Celebration Committee.
Lowell was always wanting to study and learn. He loved to read and learn new foreign languages. He also was very interested in trains and wanted to know anything he could about them. Lowell also learned to play the violin and piano.
In his free time, Lowell enjoyed playing cards and had recently found a love for Ohio sports, especially OSU and the Cincinnati Reds.
A graveside service will be at noon Friday, Feb. 2, at the Zanesfield Cemetery in Zanesfield, Ohio. The Price-McElroy Funeral Home in Mt. Victory is assisting the family with arrangements.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations in Lowell’s honor may be made to Doctors Without Borders, the Shriners Hospital, or the Ridgemont Public Library.
