Indian Lake High School is paying homage to one of the district’s original leaders.

Family members and friends of former Indian Lake Superintendent Robert “Bob” Henry gathered in the halls of ILHS recently for a small ceremony. They placed a memorial plaque in his honor outside the current Guidance Office, which was once the location of the Superintendent’s Office.

Superintendent Robert Henry led the Indian Lake School District from 1968-1982. After that, he served as superintendent of the Shadyside School District for many years.

Henry oversaw the construction and opening of Indian Lake High School in 1969 and he was on hand during the 50 Years of ILHS celebrations in 2019.

Superintendent Henry passed away in 2023 at the age of 86.

Longtime Indian Lake guidance counselor and administrator Dave Corwin spoke about Superintendent Henry. Corwin had Mr. Henry as an Algebra teacher, a principal and a superintendent during his days as a student at Buckeye Local School. Superintendent Henry later hired Corwin as an educator at Indian Lake.

Henry’s daughter, Tammy Mansfield, spearheaded the effort to honor her father. She chose these words for the plaque: “The impact you had was immeasurable; the lives you touched, uncountable.”

More than 35 family members were at ILHS for the ceremony, including Henry’s wife, Lauretta, all of his surviving children and several grandchildren and great grandchildren.
