Lois Jean Rurode Ashworth, age 100, of Bellefontaine, passed away on Tuesday, December 17, 2024, surrounded by her loving family at her Bellefontaine residence.
She was born on October 1, 1924, in Farmersville, Ohio, the daughter of Johan and Virgie (Bernheisel) Rurode who have both preceded her in death along with her siblings Dorothy, Hugh and Irene.
Lois married Glenn M. Ashworth on December 25, 1945, in Eaton, Ohio, and he preceded her in death in 1997.
Lois is survived by her two daughters Sharon (Ashworth) Maybrook of Tampa, FL and Diana (Ashworth) Costin (Dr. Art) of Bellefontaine, her grandchildren: Kristin Scapelli (Paul) and two sons Matthew and Michael, Apollo Beach, FL; Michelle Kaufman, Palm Harbor, FL and her daughter Sammi, Dr. Scott (Dr. Linda) Costin of Bellefontaine, their children Jenna, Jack, Ella, Emma, and Alexa Costin of Titusville, Florida, her children Blair and Skylar.
After graduating Lanier High School in Farmersville, Lois worked at National Cash Register in Dayton. Once World War ll broke out, her job description changed to building gun sights for war airplanes. As the war came to an end, Lois met her future husband Glenn who was wounded in Germany during the Battle of the Bulge. She helped nurse him back to health and they soon married on Christmas Day, 1945. Two daughters soon joined their family and Lois helped build the family business, Ashworth TV Sales and Service. Lois became the business manager for the next 30 years. Lois loved to travel and they took road trips to all 48 states. Once they became empty nesters, they traveled to Europe.
By 1981, Lois and Glenn retired to Palm Harbor Florida. After ten years of sunshine and ocean, they longed for family back in Ohio and settled in Bellefontaine. Lois loved family, cooking (Monkey (pumpkin) Pies, reading, shopping and volunteering with the Guild of Mary Rutan Hospital. Her longevity of living past 100 comes from her family history and living a good life she would say. She loved her morning donut holes and coffee and Sunday family dinners.
The family would like to give a special thank you to her caregivers, Rachel Engle and Cindy and Patti from Universal Home Health & Hospice.
