Two local schools were among the dozens of districts across Ohio to receive threats of violence against their campuses over the weekend, as the Logan County Sheriff’s Office along with the Washington Township Police Department performed checks of Benjamin Logan and Indian Lake schools, respectively.
While law enforcement agencies have not deemed the situation a credible threat, local authorities are taking proactive measures to ensure the safety of students, staff and the community.
The Logan County Sheriff’s Office, in response to the unsettling messages, conducted thorough building and perimeter searches at Benjamin Logan, while the Washington Township Police Department undertook a comprehensive search at Indian Lake.
Following the exhaustive search, law enforcement did not identify any imminent danger at either school.
Schools were in session Monday as normal, albeit with additional security. Any announcements regarding cancellations, delays, or updates will be communicated directly by the schools, the sheriff’s office said.
Indian Lake Schools administration reported an e-mail received by a staff member indicating a bomb threat on campus. Swift action followed, with the local law enforcement conducting a complete search, reassuring the community that no active threats were found against students or staff members. As an added precaution, extra patrols will be maintained throughout the week to ensure continued safety and peace of mind.
School districts in all corners of the state reported similar threats, according to various media outlets.
The community is encouraged to stay vigilant and report any suspicious activities to the local authorities. The Logan County Sheriff’s Office is reachable at (937) 592-5731 for any questions or concerns.
