A local high school educator has been indicted on multiple sex-related charges for offenses involving an inappropriate relationship with a student.

Tanner Schoen, 30, of East Liberty, was indicted Wednesday, July 12, by a Logan County grand jury on 11 total counts involving sexual battery and rape. The offenses allegedly began in August, 2020. Schoen has been the FFA adviser for Indian Lake and Ohio Hi-Point Career Center since 2017.
The investigation began when school officials contacted the Logan County Sheriff’s Office in June regarding an inappropriate relationship between Schoen and a student.

Following the investigation, Schoen submitted his resignation on July 6, Indian Lake Schools reported.

“Ohio Hi-Point and Indian Lake Schools are outraged by the accusation against Mr. Schoen. We hold our staff members to the highest code of conduct, and this alleged behavior is unacceptable and betrays the trust of our students, families and communities. The safety and security of students will always be our highest priority,” according to a statement posted to the Indian Lake Schools Facebook page.

The schools are actively working to support the OHP/IL FFA Chapter during their summer activities. Additionally, plans are underway to hire a new instructor for the fall, as Ohio Hi-Point and Indian Lake Schools remain committed to providing quality education and guidance to their students.

He will be arraigned Friday in Logan County Common Pleas Court.

Schoen is a former Agriculture teacher at Felicity Franklin High School in Felicity from 2015-2017. He is a 2015 graduate of The Ohio State University and a 2011 graduate of Bellevue Senior High School, according to his Linkedin profile.
