Leo R. “Buzz” Hangholt, Jr., 68, of Lakeview, OH, passed away Thursday afternoon, March 2, 2023, at Lima Memorial Health Systems.

Leo was born on April 22, 1954, in Bellefontaine, OH, a son of the late Leo, Sr. and Myrtle Piper Hangholt. He was also preceded in death by a brother, Terry Piper, and a grandson, Logan Hangholt.

Leo married Theresa McCafferty on January 20, 1973, at the Indian Lake Northside Church of the Nazarene and recently celebrated their 50th Anniversary. She survives along with their children, Timothy J. Hangholt of Lakeview, Brandy L. (John II) Homan of Reynolds, IN, and Troy A. (Kathy) Hangholt of Belle Center, OH, six grandchildren, John D. Homan III, Wyatt N. Homan, Seth M. Homan, Sierra B. Homan, Abbagail Hangholt, and Jacob Hangholt, four great grandchildren, Iva Boer, Liam Adugalski, Bradley Homan, and Ily Homan, a sister, Cheryl (Steve, Sr.) McCafferty of Indian Lake Shores, and numerous nieces and nephews. 

Buzz attended Indian Lake High School. He was one of many talents working as a truck driver, and for Superior Coach, Tri-County CAC, and at Mad River Mountain prior to retiring. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, collecting diecast cars, and knives, listening to classic rock music, picking the guitar and singing karaoke. He loved spending time with his family and playing with his grandchildren. Leo was kindhearted, friendly, and jovial. He never knew a stranger and relished in telling a story or joke. He got the nickname “Buzz” from his parents due to a pull toy he played with as a kid, and it stuck with him his whole life.

Funeral services will begin at 7:00 pm, Wednesday, March 8, 2023, at Shoffstall Funeral Home, 205 S. Main St., Lakeview, with visitation from 4-7. 

Memorial contributions may be given in Leo’s memory to Logan County Cancer Society c/o Mary Rutan Hospital.
