Lakers hold on for baseball win over Urbana

Indian Lake’s baseball team came up with a clutch offensive surge in the top of the seventh inning and then had to hang on for dear life in the bottom of the seventh to pull out an 8-7 victory over host Urbana in Central Buckeye Conference action Wednesday.

The Lakers are now 15-5 overall. They have a two-game lead in the CBC Mad River division with a 10-3 mark.

Indian Lake led 2-1 after the opening inning.

The Lakers increased their lead to 3-1 in the top of the third, but the Hillclimbers plated four runs in the bottom of the third to lead 5-3.

Indian Lake scored once in the fourth to make it 5-4.

The score stayed that way until the Lakers put four runs on the scoreboard in the top of the seventh. That gave Indian Lake an 8-5 lead.

Urbana made it interesting in the bottom half of the seventh, scoring a pair of runs to get within a run.

But the Lakers were able to get out of the jam and get the win.

Camdon Tuttle went 3-5 with a double and an RBI and Chase Baldwin went 2-4 with a double and an RBI to spark the Lakers’ hitting attack.

Madden Lillard had two RBI and Dawson Finfrock, Lane Tucci and Evan Manley each had one RBI.

Gavin Lones went six innings on the mound to get the win for the Lakers. He scattered six hits, allowed two earned runs and struck out five.

The Lakers are back in action today at Tecumseh.

Chiefs dodge Arrows

Bellefontaine’s baseball team beat host Tecumseh 6-2 in a Central Buckeye Conference contest Wednesday.

The Chiefs are now 9-8 overall and 6-7 in the CBC. The Arrows fall to 5-12, 4-9.

The Chiefs scored twice in the third inning and plated two more runs in the top of the fifth for a 4-0 lead.

Tecumseh scored both of its runs in the bottom of the fifth for a 4-2 score.

Bellefontaine tacked on a pair of insurance runs in the sixth.

Land Reeves was the winning pitcher. He struck out 10 and allowed two runs in six innings.

Kaden Reames went 3-4 to lead the Bellefontaine offense.

The Chiefs are back in action Friday at home against Graham.
