Lakers earn series softball sweep over Raiders

Indian Lake’s softball team earned another big win Wednesday, fighting off visiting Benjamin Logan 6-5 in a Central Buckeye Conference clash.

It was the second win of the week for the Lakers over the Raiders. Indian Lake won the first game of the series 3-0 on Monday.

Indian Lake is now 18-1 overall and 12-1 in the CBC. The Raiders slip to 12-4, 7-4.

It was a back-and-forth battle between the talented Logan County squads.

The Lakers struck first with two runs in the second inning.

Ben Logan scored once in the third to make it 2-1. Ben Logan got that run back by pushing a runner across the plate in the fourth for a 3-1 advantage.

The Raiders put a pair of runs on the scoreboard in the fifth, tying the game at 3-3.

Indian Lake grabbed the momentum back in the bottom of the sixth, scoring twice to grab a 5-3 lead.

Ben Logan refused to go away as the Raiders knotted the score at 5-5 with two runs in the top of the seventh.

It didn’t take long for Indian Lake to answer. The Lakers were able to get runners at second and third and Madison Brentlinger then singled in the winning run.

Both teams hit the ball well. The Raiders finished with 12 hits and the Lakers had 11.

Brentlinger earned the win in the circle for the Lakers. She also had a double, single and the winning RBI.

Also for the IL offense, Halle Roby went 2-3, Porscha Davis had a triple and an RBI, Katie Roby was 2-3 and Hannah Marlow went 2-3 with a double and an RBI.

For the Raiders, Rhea Harner was 2-4, Jillian Plikerd was 2-4 with a double and two RBI, Kenzie Roseburrough 2-4 with a double and two RBI, Rylan Norviel had a double and Bailee Stover was 3-3.

The Raiders return to action Saturday at home against Riverside, while the Lakers play Monday at home against Urbana.

London edges Chiefs

Bellefontaine’s softball team came up short at London on Wednesday, falling 4-3 in a Central Buckeye Conference game.

The Chiefs are now 8-10 overall and 4-8 in the CBC. London improves to 10-8, 7-5.

Bellefontaine grabbed two runs in the second inning for a 2-0 lead.

London cut the Chiefs’ lead in half with a run in the the third to make it 2-1.

The Chiefs pushed their lead to 3-1 in the fourth, and the score stayed that way until the bottom of the seventh, when the Red Raiders plated three runs to pull out the win.

Alexza Clifton went 2-3 with a triple and home run to lead the Chiefs at the plate.

The Chiefs host North Union today.
