Over the past few weeks, the Indian Lake Lakers and Ben Logan Raiders teamed up to tackle cancer with the first official local Pink Out football game since the Covid-19 pandemic.
Representatives from the Logan County Cancer Society and its parent organization, the Mary Rutan Foundation, were at the game at Laker Stadium Friday night, Oct. 4, to answer questions and pass out pink ribbons.
Through T-shirt sales, shirt sponsors, an ILHS Cheerleader-ILHS Student Council bake sale and many generous donations during the football game, the event raised approximately $5,520 to support the Logan County Cancer Society.
Chief Operating Officer of the Cancer Society Tammy Gump said this contribution will assist cancer sufferers with related expenses such as medications and supplies, wigs, travel expenses and in some cases, food, utilities, and clothing needs are provided in emergency situations.
The Logan County Cancer Society’s mission is to provide financial assistance to county residents who have cancer or a cancer-related illness while promoting education in the detection and treatment of cancer.
Led by the cheerleading squads, both the Indian Lake and Ben Logan student sections were doused in pink for the football game. The Laker football players wore pink arm bands, while the Raiders sported pink socks.
Even the marching bands got into the act with pink gloves, hats and special decorations on their instruments.
