Lady Tigers bounce Dixie in tourney opener

West Liberty-Salem’s girls basketball team is moving on after beating sixth-seeded Dixie 52-39 in a Division III sectional tournament first-round game Saturday at Covington.

The eighth-seeded Tigers are now 13-10 and will play ninth-seeded Greeneview at 6 p.m. Wednesday at Covington.

Dixie drops to 15-8.

A strong first quarter for the Tigers finished with a 17-10 lead.
WL-S went on to lead 31-19 at halftime.

The Greyhounds used a 16-10 run in the third quarter to get within six points at 41-35.
WL-S was able to fend off Dixie in the fourth quarter to wrap up the win.

Bailey Poppe led the Tigers with 13 points. Ava Astorino and Megan Hollar each had 11 points, Chaley Wade scored eight and Lilly Weaver added seven.

Sierra Brinson scored a game-high 29 points to lead the Greyhounds.
