Lady Chiefs win D2 district crown

Bellefontaine’s girls track and field team is performing at its full potential at the most important time of the season.

The Lady Chiefs on Saturday captured a Division II district championship by recording 118.5 points.

Carroll was second (112), Ben Logan was third (82), Indian Lake took fourth (70) and Kenton Ridge was fifth (50).

“The girls were up and down all year, but they are peaking and had near perfect meets the past two weeks,” said Bellefontaine head coach Ben Davis. “Freshman Kelsie Snapp overcame fouling in her first two attempts and went on win over teammate Lexie Robinson.

“Kylie Adams and Ava Reeves broke school records. Adams won four events and Reeves missed the district record in 100 by .03 seconds.”

Adams won three individual district titles for the Chiefs, placing first in the 100 hurdles in a school-record time of 14.87, first in the 300 hurdles (45.86) and first in the long jump (17-7).

Adams also won the 400 relay with teammates Parker Penhorwood, Ava Reeves and Callie Shumaker (50.41).

Reeves won a district title in the 100, setting a new school record time of 12.25).

Freshman Kelsie Snapp won a district title in the discus on Saturday (123-5) to go with the district title she won in the shot put on Thursday.

Placing second for the Lady Chiefs on Saturday were Shumaker in the 300 hurdles (PR of 47.15), Reeves in the 200 (26.15) and Alexis Robinson in the discus (121-11).

Finishing third and advancing to regionals were Shumaker in the 100 hurdles (15.84) and Reeves in the long jump (15-7).

The top four in event event earned regional berths.

Also for the Lady Chiefs on Saturday, Harper Penhorwood was fifth in the pole vault (8-0) and Kailyn Newman was seventh in the 800 (2:34.11).

Ben Logan’s girls team is sending a big group of athletes to the regional meet.

Leading the Raiders on Saturday was Isabel Henderson, who won the 200 (26.12), was second in the 100 (12.62) and fourth in the long jump (15-6.50). She had previously qualified to the regionals in the high jump with a fourth-place finish.

Finishing third for BL on Saturday and earning a regional berth was Georgia Bates in the 1,600 (5:43.63).

Taking fourth Saturday and advancing were Kate Gulick in the 100 hurdles (16.17) and 300 hurdles (39.41), the 800 relay team of Ella Chamberlain, Mya Burrey, Macy Matthews and Hannah White (1:52.26) and the 400 relay team of Gulick, Burrey, Matthews and White (52.57).

Taking fifth for the Lady Raiders on Saturday were Scarlett Elliott in the pole vault (8-0) and Alanna Gibson in the discus (105-10), while taking sixth were the 1,600 relay team of Chamberlain, Gulick, Mylee Boysel and Burrey (4:26.43), Estella Wenger in the 3,200 (13:11.10) and White in the 300 hurdles (52.66) and 100 hurdles (17:01).

Bates was eighth in the 800 (2:34.85), Burrey was eighth in the long jump (14-10.75) and Kate Vickroy finished eighth in the pole vault (8-0).

Indian Lake’s girls team is also sending numerous athletes to the regionals.

Elayna Richardson won the 400 (59.95) and was third in the 200 (26.87).

The Lakers had two winning relay teams: the 800 relay team of Jalan Martin, Richardson, Reece Martin and Addison Beck (1:48.14) and the 1,600 relay team of Reece Martin, Richardson, Reagan Rash and Cameron Finfrock (4:14.63).

Rash took third in the 800 (2:27.37) and Evie Wagner was fourth in the 3,200 (12:52.39) to qualify for the regionals.

Placing fifth for the Lakers on Saturday were Reece Martin in the 100 hurdles (16.35) and the 400 relay team of Reece Martin, Jalan Martin, Ava Huffman and Beck (52.87), while a sixth-place finish went to Ava Faler in the high jump (4-10).

Also for the Lakers, KaiLea Miller was seventh in the 1,600 (6:00.40).

D2 BOYS RESULTS

Benjamin Logan’s boys team earned district runner-up honors Saturday by finishing with 66 points.

Carroll won the Division II boys district meet with 86.5 points. Miami East was third (61), Springfield Shawnee was fourth (59) and Bellefontaine took fifth (58).

Indian Lake finished in 12th with 22 points.

Leading the Raiders on Saturday was the district championship 400 relay team of Ben Chamberlain, Trevor Berry, Hunter Lattimer and Sam Whitten (44.83).

The Raiders also moved on Saturday five other events.

Yale Scheiderer was second in the 110 hurdles in a PR of 15.68.

Taking third and advancing were Trevor Berry in the shot put (PR of 48-9) and Carter Daniels in the pole vault (12-0).

Finishing in fourth for the Raiders on Saturday were the 800 relay team of Hunter Lattimer, Scheiderer, Chamberlain and Whitten (1:34.73) and the 1,600 relay team of Dylan Vance, Scheiderer, Lattimer and Chamberlain (3:38.67).

Taking fifth for the Raiders were Whitten in the 100 (11.42) and Scheiderer in the 300 hurdles (43.06) and finishing sixth were Carter Buck in the 300 hurdles (PR of 43.69) and Whitten in the 200 (23.48).

Contributing seventh-place finishes for the Raiders on Saturday were Buck in the 110 hurdles (PR of 16.48) and Eric Hughes in the 1,600 (4:49.68).

Mason Jackson added an eighth-place finish for the Raiders in the shot put (43-8).

Bellefontaine’s boys team was led by district championships from Sullivan Ashcraft in the shot put (49-11.5) and Tony Stewart in the 3,200 (PR of 10:02.46).

Stewart placed third in the 1,600 (PR of 4:36.96).

Haiden Manns also qualified for the regionals with a fourth-place finish in the shot put (48-6.5) after earlier qualifying in the discus.

“Tony Stewart had a stellar day earning personal bests and regional berths in the 1,600 and 3,200,” said BHS head coach Ben Davis. “The shot putters had to sweat a little battling to earn their regional berths with Sully eventually winning and Manns qualifying on his last attempt. But we will miss seniors Patel, Hutchins, Varner, and Buck and thank them for their efforts. Overall, it was a great day to be a Chieftain.”

Finishing sixth on Saturday for the Chiefs was the 1,600 relay team of Max Varner, Vansh Patel, Carter Snapp and Kaiden Foulk (3:41.66), while seventh-place finishes went to Ethan Orahood in the 300 hurdles (PR of 44.17) and Harper Scott in the 400 (53.24).

Taking eighth on Saturday for BHS were the 1,600 relay team of Jeffrey Smith, Jack Hutchins, Carter Kuhn and Varner (46.44), the 800 relay team of Smith, Varner, Patel and Foulk (1:36.50) and James Holt in the 300 hurdles (45.63).

Brant Parsell powered Indian Lake’s boys team by winning the 300 hurdles and earning a regional berth in a time of 41.48.

Parsell also took sixth in the 110 hurdles (16.34).

Also placing for the Lakers were Gavin Henry (fifth in the 110 hurdles, 16.29), Ryan Culp (fifth in the pole vault, 12-0) and Caiden Gauntt (eighth in long jump, 18-11).
