A Springfield man was arrested on charges of possession of drugs (bulk) and trafficking in drugs after a large amount of methamphetamine was seized from his vehicle during a traffic stop in the Indian Lake area, with the help of K9 Pyro’s detection.
Ryan Tuggle, 41, was lodged in the Logan County Jail after the incident Thursday evening, Aug. 21, and also was charged with resisting arrest, officers of the Washington Township Police Department report.
Officers on patrol about 10:14 p.m. on State Route 708 near U.S. Route 33 and conducted a traffic stop on Tuggle’s vehicle for multiple equipment violations.
Upon making contact with the defendant, officers said signs of drug use were observed. A request for a K9 was made and Bellefontaine Police Department’s K9 Pyro responded to the scene.
Once on scene, K9 Pyro indicated to the odor of illegal drugs inside of the vehicle.
Tuggle was advised of the K9 indication. After being told several times to keep his hands out of his pockets, he was advised a pat down was going to be conducted on his person. The defendant was non-compliant and refused a pat down.
Tuggle was then advised he was being detained. He reportedly refused and resisted officers attempts to place him into handcuffs. As a result of his non-compliance to officer commands, he sustained minor injuries and was treated at the scene by Indian Lake EMS.
A probable cause search was conducted on his vehicle. During the search, officers located a large amount of methamphetamine. It field-tested positive for methamphetamine and weighed 18 grams.
Tuggle was taken into custody and transported to the jail.
The Bellefontaine Police Department, Russells Point Police Department and Indian Lake EMS assisted at the scene.
“I am thankful for the incredible working relationship between all law enforcement agencies in Logan County. Because of this, Logan County is a much safer place to live, work and visit,” Washington Township Police Department Chief Michael Thompson said in a release.
