Josephine Anna Mustaine, 95, of Bellefontaine, passed away on October 19, 2023, at St. Rita’s Medical Center in Lima.

She was born on December 19, 1927, in Bellefontaine, Ohio, the daughter of the late George Deward and Sara Daisey (VanMeter) McVay. She was also preceded in death by her sister, Mary Helen Smith.

She is survived by her daughter Jean Wilkins of Bellefontaine; two sons: Patrick (Barbara) Mustaine of Maplewood and Jim (Karen) Mustaine of Australia; seven grandchildren: Dan Mustaine, Stacey (Phillip) Savage, Chris Mustaine, Kimberlee Stewart, Daniel Mustaine, Lara Mustaine, and Sara (Scott) Wagner; along with several great-grandchildren: Mitchell, Luke, Emma, Jessica, Amelia, Ian, Justin, Alexis, Maile, Madeline, Mason; and great-great-grandchildren: Corbin and Holland.

Josephine lived a full and meaningful life dedicated to caring for others. She worked as a nurse’s assistant at Mary Rutan Hospital for many years, where her compassionate nature and warm smile brought comfort to countless patients. Even after retirement, Josephine continued to serve her community as a home health professional, making a positive impact on the lives of those she helped.

In addition to her dedication to her career, Josephine had a passion for nature and enjoyed spending time birdwatching. She found solace and joy in observing the vibrant colors and melodies of birds in their natural habitat. Josephine was also an avid fan of The Ohio State Buckeyes. She had been a member of the Kings Daughters as well as a den mother for the Cub Scouts.

Josephine will be remembered for her unwavering kindness and selflessness. She touched the lives of everyone she met, offering support and empathy in times of need. Her gentle spirit and nurturing heart will be greatly missed by family, friends, and the community she served.

A memorial graveside service honoring Josephine’s life will be conducted in Bellefontaine Cemetery in April of 2024.
