John R. Sonner, 82 of the Villages, Florida, and formerly of Greenville, Ohio, passed away on Sunday August 13, 2023, in Florida from complications of Parkinson’s.

He was born August 16, 1940 in Detroit, Michigan, the son of the late Hans F. Sonner and Effie D. (Bentley) Shiverdecker.

John was the superintendent at Greenville Country Club where he was responsible for the building of the back nine holes; he also had an irrigation business with his son Ben.

John was a 1958 graduate of Greenville High School, he was an avid golfer and loved life, had a wicked sense of humor, he liked John Denver, enjoyed going to the movies, watching the Cincinnati Bengals and Ohio State Buckeyes, and he could fix anything.

John was preceded in death by his parents; his granddaughter, Josie; his sister, Gloria Murphy; and his brother, Greg Sonner.

John is survived by his wife, Judy Sonner of Florida; his children and spouses, John Bentley and Nicole Sonner of St. Henry, Tim Sonner and Jay Fisher of Columbus, and Heather and Greg Coby of Ostrander, Ohio; and his grandchildren, Jackson, Lilly Sonner, Lola Coby.

There will be no services. Arrangements have been entrusted to Zechar Bailey Funeral Home, Greenville, Ohio.
