John M. Wilcox, 66, of Huntsville, Indian Lake, OH passed away Friday morning, July 19, 2024, at Logan Acres Care Center, Bellefontaine, OH.

John was born on July 11, 1958, in Lima, OH, the son of the late Ray M. and Mary E. Knief Wilcox, whom he looked forward to going home to see again.

John is survived by three sisters who loved their baby brother with all their hearts, Karen Wilcox of Huntsville, Treva (Kurt) Stahler of DeGraff, OH, and Rita Cook of South Carolina, four young men who will miss their Uncle John for the love he had for them, Geno Givens, Kirby Stahler, Marcus Stahler, and Andy Cook and a host of friends John cared dearly for.

A proud card-carrying Lake Rat, John was a 1977 graduate of Indian Lake High School. He worked for ODNR at Indian Lake State Park for 30 years. John was a member of Lewistown-Trinity United Methodist Church, Sons of Amvets, and Cherokee Hills Golf Course.

He was president of Lake Ridge Condo Association and a proud carrier of a CCW permit. John enjoyed metal detecting and Dowsing Rods. He would walk for miles enjoying nature and the outdoors. John loved playing golf with friends, old and new. He attended as many Indian Lake Athletic events as he could, be at home or away with close friend, Don Berlin, and always looked forward to a good meal afterwards.

John had many close friends whom he held a special place in his heart. During his illness, he could always count on frequent visits from Randy Kelly, Rod Beck, Bill Sadler, Don Berlin, Dave and Diane James, Doug Stemble, various golfing buddies, and many others too numerous to name, to share stories and laughs. John will be missed most of all by his best buddy, his canine companion, Miley.  John never knew a stranger, and those he called friends were friends till the end. He will be dearly missed.

Pastor Bill Halter will begin funeral services at 5 p.m., Wednesday, July 24, at Shoffstall Funeral Home, 205 S. Main St, Lakeview. Visitation is from 1 to 5 p.m. at the funeral home.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be given in John’s memory to Indian Lake Athletic Boosters.
