West Liberty-Salem recently announced two hires for its varsity coaching staff.

Brad Jarzab has been selected as the school’s new football coach, while Mandy Lauck will take over the girls track and field duties.

Jarzab has been part of the Tigers’ staff since 2018 working with the quarterbacks and safeties.

Jarzab is a graduate of Shawnee, where he played from 2009 to 2011. He then played four years at the University of St. Francis in Fort Wayne, Ind. and earned his bachelor’s degree.

After two years coaching quarterbacks at Shawnee, he was added to the Tigers’ staff.

“I am honored to take on the responsibility of leading the West Liberty-Salem football program,” said Jarzab in a news release from the school. “For the past seven years I have been able to witness an excellent tradition here, and I hope to continue that hardworking culture that I have grown to love about West Liberty-Salem. I look forward to working with a group of dedicated student-athletes, and this great community.”

Athletic director Morgan Sullivan said, “We are thrilled to welcome Brad Jarzab as our new head football coach. His exceptional background as both a player and a coach, along with his commitment to excellence, perfectly aligns with the values of our athletic program. Brad’s intimate understanding of our local football landscape, having the majority of his coaching career in this community, will be a tremendous asset as we continue our tradition of success developing future leaders of our community with great football stories.”

Jarzab replaces Dan McGill, who stepped down following the Tigers’ journey to the state semifinals last season.

Lauck was selected as the girls track and field coach, taking over for Ann Vogel.

She competed in track and field in high school, then was a member of the cross country and track teams for Wilmington College. She specialized in the middle distance races, running in the 800, 1600 and 3200, as well as the 4×400 and 4×800 relay events.

After coaching at Urbana and Bellefontaine, she joined West-Liberty-Salem’s staff in 2010.

“We are thrilled to have Coach Lauck lead our girls track and field team,” said athletic director Morgan Sullivan. “Her knowledge, dedication and passion for the sport make her the perfect fit to lead our program forward. With her experience and leadership, we know the future of West Liberty-Salem track and field is in great hands.”

Lauck is also the girls soccer coach for West Liberty-Salem.
