Janet Louise Hartranft was born on June 15, 1946 to Samuel and Virginia Dirmeyer of Akron, Ohio and passed away on November 15, 2023 in Grove City, Ohio.
She and her family moved to Waverly, where she graduated from high school.
Janet attended The Ohio State University, where she received her Bachelor of Science in nursing in the class of 1969. That same year she married Thomas Hartranft.
They were married in Pasadena, California, in August 1969. During Tom’s time in the Navy, they were stationed in Adak, Alaska and Pensacola, Florida.
She created lifelong friendships with those she met during those years. They then moved back home to central Ohio. Janet enjoyed spending her summers on Crystal Lake in northern Michigan, and socializing with her church group. She was a devoted mother to Scott and Meghan, making sure they made it to all of their sports and activities.
In her later years, she cared for her three grandchildren, Talley, Ethan and Emma while their parents worked. Janet joins in death her parents and brother Major John Dirmeyr.
She loved Ohio State Football, all of her beloved pets through the years, and had finally settled into life on the farm. She especially enjoyed watching the sun rise over the pond at her farm, The Lazy H Ranch, tending to her gardens, and watching for her Purple Martins to return every spring. She could always be found sitting at her desk, working on puzzle books or reading a book.
Janet was a member of the Marysville Grace Brethren Church and the Bellefontaine Grace Church.
A celebration of life service is 3:30 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 28, at the Bellefontaine Grace Church, 2220 S. Main St., Bellefontaine, Ohio, 43311.
In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made in Janet’s name to the Bellefontaine Grace Church.
