James Lowell Wilgus, 79, of Bellefontaine was ushered into the arms of Jesus at home with his wife by his side on August 29, 2024. He was born on October 19, 1944, in Bellefontaine, Ohio, to the late Donald William and Donna Mae (Norris) Wilgus. He is also preceded in death by his siblings: Byron Wilgus, Sandy Meyer, Patricia Wilgus, Chuck Wilgus, Donald “Phil” Wilgus, and David Wilgus.

James is survived by his loving wife of 57 years, Sue (Barrington) Wilgus; their children: Lisa (Jeff) White, Donna (Will) Jacobs, and Jim (Melissa) Wilgus; grandchildren, Benton (Olivia), Addison, and Maci; sister, Becky Wilgus; brother, John (Laura) Wilgus; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.

A U.S. Army veteran, James had a love for woodworking, fishing, and working on cars. In his younger years, James enjoyed drag racing and won several trophies doing so. He also enjoyed golfing, bowling, and reading. In his free time he loved to be outdoors whether he was sitting on the porch or tending to his garden. He liked to watch football, especially the Ohio State Buckeyes and enjoyed watching his children play sports growing up. He worked as a quality control inspector at Siemens for many years and was a lifelong member of the VFW in Bellefontaine, a member of the Elks Lodge in Bellefontaine and also the Top of Ohio Car Club. His greatest joy was his time with his family and he always made sure his children and grandchildren knew how proud he was of them.

A memorial service for Jim will be held at McKee’s Creek Chapel, 4750 US-68, West Liberty, Ohio 43357 on Saturday, September 14, 2024, at 2:30 p.m. Visitation will be one hour prior from 1:30 to 2:30 p.m.
