James H. Pond, 88, of West Liberty, passed away at 1:45 p.m. on Wednesday, May 24, 2023, at Green Hills Care Center, with family by his side. He was born in St. Paris, Ohio on June 13, 1934, a son of the late Paul Hubert and Roberta (Walters) Pond. 

On March 4, 1953, Jim married Sharon Arlene (Montgomery) Pond in Liberty, Indiana and she preceded him in death on December 13, 2003. He was also preceded in death by an infant daughter, Susan Arlene Pond; two brothers, Kenneth Pond, and Roger Pond; and two sisters-in-law, Dixie Pond and Patricia Pond.

Jim is survived by two daughters, Melia (Leo) Wagner, and Arlene Pond; four sons, Jim (Robin) Pond, John Pond, Joe Pond, and Jeff (Kim) Pond; 15 grandchildren, Kelli (Austin) Steward, Chris (Kristin) Wagner, Casey Wagner, Shem (Lydia) Pond, Cole Pond, Chelsi Tauscher, Morgan Pond, Danielle (Jack) Meder, Austin (Sydnea) Pond, Elizabeth Pond, Dalton Pond, Kyle (Karol) Pond, Kristin (Shawn) McIntire, Kody Pond, and Kaleb Pond; 9 great grandchildren; two sisters, JoAnn (Terry) O’Brien, and Janet (Larry) Coleman; two brothers, Richard (Dolly) Pond, and Merlin Pond; two sisters-in-law, Kathy Pond, and Connie Pond; and several nieces and nephews.

Prior to moving to Logan County and becoming a longtime member of McKees Creek Church in West Liberty, Jim and his family attended Jenkins Chapel in Cable, Ohio where he served as church superintendent. He was a dairy farmer and a truck driver.  His family enjoyed traveling all over showing their dairy cattle in local, state and national competitions.  He was a member of both the Ohio and the National Holstein Association, a 4-H Advisor and also served on many committees over the years.

The family will receive friends from 4 to 7 p.m. Wednesday, May 31, at the Eichholtz Daring & Sanford Funeral Home, 101 Zanesfield Road, West Liberty. Pastor Chris Starbuck will officiate a funeral service at 11 a.m. on Thursday, June 1, at the funeral home. Burial will follow in Myrtle Tree Cemetery in St. Paris, Ohio.

Memorial contribution may be made, in Jim’s memory, to McKees Creek Church, 4750 U.S. 68, West Liberty, Ohio 43357.
