Jackie Kellogg was born in Dayton, Ohio, on March 15, 1939. She was the daughter of Jack and Rose Hofmann. The family moved to Lakeview, Ohio, because her father loved fishing and started the family business known as Hofmann’s Lures. Jackie passed away on Saturday, March 22, 2025, after a long battle with dementia and is now reunited with her husband Bob.
Jackie and Bob leave behind five children: Kim (Jeff) Martin, Kathy (Kevin) Berg, Robert (Richard) Kellogg, Chris (Judy) Kellogg, and Kelly (Larry) Pool along with 12 grandchildren and 18 great grandchildren. Jackie also leaves behind her brother, John (Nancy) Hofmann and sister, Jan (Howard) Lambert. Jackie was preceded in death by two siblings, sister Judy Stevens and brother Jim Hofmann, and one grandchild.
Jackie was the first in her family to graduate from college. She received her Bachelor’s Degree in Elementary Education from Ohio State in 1969 and her Master’s Degree in Educational Administration from University of Dayton in 1979. Jackie taught in the Bellefontaine City School System from 1969 – 1978 then served as a School Administrator from 1978 – 1996. Upon retirement she obtained a certificate in massage therapy in 1998 and loved helping others feel better.
Jackie was a beloved educator who will be forever remembered for her unconventional teaching style. She inspired hundreds of children to read books by taking on challenges which included wearing roller skates around the school hallways and dressing up as Gumby. Jackie truly cared for her students who continue to honor her by sharing their fond memories with the family. Jackie was a ball of energy and never hesitated to deal with a problem head on. Jackie taught during the days when a school paddle was an approved method of discipline. Jackie didn’t hesitate to use the paddle when needed and then hugged the child explaining why structure and discipline is so important in a child’s life.
Her final rodeo in education took place at the Bellefontaine High School as Assistant Principal. She was famous for her morning announcements that made the students listen and blush because they could count on Mrs. Kellogg making them laugh.
Upon retirement Jackie was honored with a scholarship in her name which is a lasting legacy of her devotion and passion for education.
Jackie and Bob spent their retirement years in Arizona where they loved hosting guests and taking road trips to Sedona and other beautiful areas.
The family is most grateful to the Campbell Place Family where Jackie spent her final years and was loved my many staff members which included several of her former students. Dementia may have robbed Jackie of many memories but it didn’t steal her sense of humor. Per the wishes of Jackie, there will be a private celebration of her life at a later date.
