Jeannie Heintz, 40, of Russells Point and Ronald Shoffner, 33, of Lakeview, each were arrested following an investigation by officers of the Bellefontaine Police Department that occurred in the early morning hours, Saturday, Aug. 17.

Dispatch was notified around 4 a.m. of a vehicle coming into the city limits displaying a stolen license plate. Officers on patrol observed a vehicle displaying the license plate in question parked in front of a residence in the area of 300 north Detroit Street.

Officers observed Heintz in the driver’s seat of the vehicle as she was exiting the vehicle. Contact was made with the female, who initially denied having driven the vehicle. She told officers the plate came off another vehicle that belonged to a male, and claimed that she spoke to the owner of the tag and was given permission to use it until they could get the vehicle registered.

Both defendants denied anything illegal was inside the vehicle, but declined to give officers permission to search it. K9 Pyro was deployed and detected a free-air sniff of the vehicle. A probable cause search of the vehicle was conducted and multiple pipes were located used for consuming drugs, officers report. A digital scale with white powder residue also was located. Shoffner admitted the pipes and scale were his.

Heintz was charged with receiving stolen property. Shoffner was charged with possession of drug paraphernalia. Both defendants were lodged in the Logan County Jail. The vehicle was towed from the scene.
