Stephon Adderly, 30, of West Liberty, was charged Wednesday, June 26, with drunk driving and excessive speeding following a 10:42 p.m. traffic stop initiated by officers of the Bellefontaine Police Department in the area of south Main Street and Gunntown Road.

Officers on patrol observed a southbound Nissan sedan that appeared to be speeding along south Main Street near Prospect Avenue. Radar indicated the driver, later identified as Adderly, was traveling 61 mph in the posted 35 mph zone. Officers began to follow the vehicle and attempted a traffic stop just north of Augusta Drive. However, the vehicle did not stop and continued south along Main Street.

Officers activated their sirens just north of Township Road 200 and the vehicle again failed to stop. Adderly continued southbound for a brief time and eventually stopped in the area of Gunntown Road.

Upon making contact with Adderly, a strong odor of alcohol was reported and the driver was detained after attempting field sobriety tests. He was charged with operating a motor vehicle under the influence of alcohol and/or drugs and for speeding and was released to a sober driver.
