Indian Lake’s Altstaetter named to Division III all-Ohio 3rd team

An outstanding season and prep career for Indian Lake basketball standout Stephanie Altstaetter has been capped by earning spot among the state’s top players.

Altstaetter on Monday was named to the Division III all-Ohio third-team by the Ohio Prep Sports Writers Association. The OPSWA was created in 1972 to support, promote and recognize coverage of high school sports across Ohio and is endorsed by the Ohio High School Athletic Association.

A senior forward, Altstaetter ranked sixth in the Central Buckeye Conference in scoring at 14.8 points per game and she was second in the league in rebounding with 11 per contest.

Altstaetter scored in double figures in 18 of the Lakers’ 24 games, with a high of 26 twice. She had 26 points in a game against Upper Scioto Valley and also went for 26 in a contest against Northwestern.

She also was a force on the boards, recording double-digit rebound totals in 16 games. She pulled down 20 in a game vs. Ben Logan and had two games with 19 boards.

Alstaetter also averaged 2.5 blocked shots per game and shot 72 percent from the free-throw line.

Altstaetter, who was a standout in volleyball for the Lakers as well, was a three-time all-CBC first-team selection for the hoops team.

Tigers’ Wade tabbed honorable mention

Chaley Wade

West Liberty-Salem junior post player Chaley Wade was selected to the honorable mention list in Division III.

Wade led the Tigers with 10.4 points and 8.1 rebounds per game. She shot 55 percent from the field.

She was a first-team all-Ohio Heritage Conference North division selection.

The Division III state player of the year was Cori Vermilya, a junior who averaged 29.5 points per game for Loudonville. The coach of the year was Doylestown Chippewa’s Denny Shrock.
