Indian Lake wins Acme district tourney, heading back to state

Indian Lake will have an opportunity to defend its 2023 Acme state title after earning its third straight trip to the state tournament.

Indian Lake beat Bellefontaine 8-2 and Anna 4-0 on Saturday before defeating Anna again Sun- day, this time 5-3, to claim the District 6 championship.

The Lakers will play District 7 winner Edgerton at 4:30 p.m. Saturday in the first round of state tournament play in Cold- water.

Because Versailles dropped out of the district tournament, it was a three-team event between Bellefontaine, Anna and the Lakers.

Anna defeated Bellefontaine 3-2 in the opener Friday.

Indian Lake then knocked Bellefontaine out of the double-elimination tournament Saturday with the 8-2 victory.

The Lakers then blanked the Rockets 4-0.

Indian Lake finished off Anna with its 5-3 win Sunday.

In the win over Bellefontaine, Madden Lillard worked five innings on the mound to get the win for IL.

He allowed four hits, one earned run and struck out five while not walking a batter.

At the plate for the Lakers, Lillard went 2-3 with a triple and an RBI and Cy Cummins had a double and two RBI.

In Saturday’s win over Anna, the Lakers led 1-0 after two innings and they added three insurance runs in the sixth frame.

Jaxon Snipes and Tyler Tidwell combined on a one-hitter for the Lakers. Snipes allowed no hits while striking our four and walking none in five innings to get the win.

Griffin Schaub had an RBI to lead the Indian Lake offense.

In Sunday’s district final win, the Lakers grabbed a 4- 1 lead through two innings.

Anna scored twice in the third inning to make the score 4-3.

Indian Lake tacked on a run in the fifth.

Schaub earned the win on the hill, throwing four innings and giving up three hits and one earned run. He struck out two and walked two.

Tidwell provided three scoreless innings of relief. Cy Cummins went 2-3 and Isaac Galbraith had two RBI to lead the Indian Lake offense.
