New six-court complex to take shape at Oldfield Beach

The Indian Lake Pickleball Committee announced this week that it has successfully met its fundraising goal of $330,000 to build a six-court pickleball complex at Oldfield Beach.

“This milestone was achieved through the generous contributions of donors and sponsors, as well as a pivotal $150,000 grant from the Ohio legislature’s one-time use strategic investment fund,” committee members said in a release.

“The announcement of the state grant in February served as a crucial catalyst for accelerating the fundraising efforts, rallying community support and paving the way for this ambitious project.”

The pickleball complex, a collaborative effort between volunteers, the Indian Lake Development Corporation (ILDC), and Indian Lake State Park, is set to become a premier destination for pickleball enthusiasts.

The announcement of the state grant in February propelled the fundraising campaign forward and allowing the committee to reach its target ahead of schedule.

Laura Kunkle, co-chair of the Indian Lake Pickleball Committee, expressed her gratitude.

“We are so appreciative to the generous sponsors and donors in Logan County who see the value of this project. We also are grateful to the state legislature for believing in this project and allocating money from its special one-time use strategic investment fund.

“Without that grant, it would have taken us far longer to turn our dream into reality. We are building a unique and special pickleball complex that will bring people from around the country to play.”

Pickleball, a rapidly growing sport that combines elements of tennis, badminton and table tennis, has seen a surge in popularity across the United States. Known for its accessibility and fun, pickleball appeals to players of all ages and skill levels, making it a vibrant addition to the Indian Lake area.

“The pickleball complex represents a significant investment in both community and sports infrastructure,” said Kunkle.

Excavation and construction will begin this fall, with the grand opening celebration planned for the spring of 2025. To learn more about the project or to donate, visit www.ILDCOhio.org/pickleballcourts.
