Indian Lake graduate claimed in Indiana crash

CLAY COUNTY, IN — A 2024 graduate of Indian Lake High School was struck and killed early Thursday, June 27, by a semi while walking on Interstate 70 near the State Route 59 exit in Clay County, Ind.

Jason James Carder, 19, of Wapakoneta, was identified as the victim by Clay County, Ind., Coroner’s Office officials, according to various news outlets.

Jason was reportedly walking in the westbound lanes of I-70 about 2:30 a.m. when he was struck by the semi near milepost 22.

The semi driver pulled over and called 911.

The crash occurred about 19 miles east of Terre Haute, Ind.

Jason’s mother, Jodi Carder, is a long-time Indian Lake Elementary School third grade teacher and his younger brother is also a student in the district, according to a post on the Indian Lake Schools Facebook page.

Visitation will be noon to 6 p.m. Friday, July 5, at Shawnee Chapel of Chiles-Laman Funeral & Cremation Services, 1170 Shawnee Rd., Lima, with funeral services immediately following at the funeral home.
