Indian Lake got its first victory of the young season Friday, defeating visiting Riverside 4-1 in nonleague softball action.
The Lakers’ freshman pitcher, Bre Wisener, tossed a complete game one-hitter for the win. She struck out 12 and walked just two.
Abigail Elliott had three hits, including a double, and drove in one run. Annie Rapp had a double and single, Mackenzie Dixon also doubled and Brylee Buyer had an RBI.
Senior Halle Roby drove in a run on a sacrifice fly, which broke a tie for the career RBI record. It was the 117th for Roby. She had been tied with Madison Brentlinger, who graduated in 2024.
Coach John Stahl of Indian Lake said, “We worked really hard in practice after the Minster game. Really worked more on cutoffs and playing 100 percent, not easygoing and lackadaisical. Our hitting was better. The pitching was outstanding, and we played good defense.”
He noted that “we just need to keep working hard and getting better. We have a lot of young players. It might be midseason or so before we hit our stride.”
For Riverside, Keira Manahan took the loss, allowing eight hits total. She did not walk a batter and struck out five.
Emilee Robinson had a solo home run. The others to reach base were Riley Dillon and Jaidyn Jackson, both on walks.
“We didn’t make adjustments to the plate,” said Pirates coach Andy Phelps. “The Wisener girl had a good game. She moved the ball. We didn’t hit the pitches we needed to, and we chased a lot of bad pitches.”
He added that “we’re still learning. We had a really good week, and we’ve played a lot of games. We still gotta get ready to play every game. And (Indian Lake) is a good team, and we had to come ready to play and we just didn’t.”
Riverside is now 4-2 on the year, while the Lakers draw even at 1-1.

Wisener got the first batter on strikes. Robinson took the first pitch for a strike, then sent the next over the fence in left field. Wisener kept cool, freezing Jayden Hoffer and getting Jackson swinging.
Indian Lake went in order in the first, and Wisener struck out the side in the top of the second.
After Manahan retired the first batter on a grounder to short, Rapp doubled to center. She didn’t have to wait there long, as Elliott singled to send her around with the tying run.
Kit Miller singled, and after a strikeout, Addison Stinemetz reached on an error to load the bases. Riverside avoided further damage as Wisner’s short fly was caught for the third out.
In the Pirates third, Lakers third baseman Elliott made a spearing catch of a liner by Manahan.
With one down in the home half, Dixon lined a shot up through the middle of the diamond. She then stole third.
Roby drilled one well into center. While Jayden Hoffer made a nice catch, it was deep enough to allow Dixon to tag up and score.
In the top of the sixth, Roby popped up to first to start the inning. Rapp beat out an infield single, then stole second. Elliott hit a soft liner into center, moving Rapp to third. With Miller at the plate, a pickoff attempt to third got away, and Rapp raced down the line to make it 3-1.
After Miller went down on strikes, Buyer singled to right, scoring Elliott. Riverside’s Avery Perk made a tumbling catch of a pop fly for the third out.
In the seventh, Wisener got Hoffer to pop up to short. Jackson coaxed a walk, with Kenna Johnson going in to pinch run.
Aubree Huston and Taylor Dillon both went down swinging to wrap up the night.
The Pirates travel to Ridgemont for a doubleheader starting at 11 a.m. today, while Indian Lake will be back in action Tuesday at Kenton at 5 p.m.
