Indian Lake Schools will use local wellness dollars to bring a magical guest speaker to the high school and a nutritious indoor growing project to the middle school.
Mary Rutan Health Foundation Chief Operating Officer Tammy Gump recently presented Community Wellness Grant checks to Indian Lake High School and Indian Lake Middle School.
The ILHS Students Against Destructive Decisions (SADD) group received a grant for $800 to host motivational speaker David McCreary on Nov. 24, just before Thanksgiving break. McCreary will present his blend of magic tricks and tips on living a regret-free life.
In addition, Gump presented ILMS Co-Principal Erin Miller and 5th Grade teacher Cassie Sullivan with a grant for nearly $1,700. The money will provide the funds to purchase a hydroponic device used for indoor gardening. This project is to create a smart indoor garden to grow fresh herbs and vegetables without soil.
The students will learn how to grow fresh produce, learn about nutrition, and learn about healthy eating. Pupils will also learn how to use technology to help grow and maintain their indoor garden.
